Masai Mara National Reserve

- Accommodation
A 1510 Square Meter Reserve is one of the best safari destinations in Africa. Its been an award-winning reserve over years due to its authentic safari experiences. Masai Mara is known to be home to different wildlife and bird species.
Witness thousands of wildebeest crossing the Greater Mara River, every June to October every year. It’s one of the greatest wildlife shows in the world. The drama and extravaganza witnessed here is an experience you will never forget.
The Maasai people have lived here for hundreds of years and make the best guides and custodians of the land. Surrounding the Masai Mara National Reserve are several community-owned conservancies. Together, they make up the Greater Masai Mara area.
The Mara is a mere 45-minute flight from Nairobi and there are plenty of bush flights connecting it to the Serengeti in Tanzania and other Kenyan destinations, such as Laikipia.
Masai Mara Wildlife
The Mara is known as one of the best places in Africa for game viewing, with more than 90 animal species and nearly 500 bird species in the ecosystem. It’s excellent for big cats. The Mara has the highest lion density in Kenya, and leopard and cheetah are common sights, too. There are spotted hyena, black-backed and side-striped jackal, serval, the occasional caracal, and even African wild dog. Plains game can be seen all year round.
There are always Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, zebra, oribi, Coke’s hartebeest, eland, and some roan antelopes. The numbers swell when the Great Migration herds cross the Mara River. From July until November, around 1.5 million wildebeest journey into Kenya, following the rains in a cyclical route around the Masai Mara and Serengeti. You can also find giraffe and elephant browsing the acacia woodlands, huge herds of buffalo, black rhino in the thickets, and hippo and crocodile in the rivers. Birds include various kingfishers, ground hornbills, secretary birds, vultures, and even the elusive Pel’s fishing owl. Migratory species arrive in the Mara between November and April.

There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne — bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive.

What Our Guests Are Saying
My family and I were able to go on a Masai Mara Safari, which we had booked through Wild Mara Safaris.
Because of previous travels we knew the importance of an experienced guide and were very happy to find out that Leperes Pilot was outstanding at his job.
He never failed to locate herds and always knew where to come across big cats despite the huge terrain. We were especially impressed by his creative ideas such as letting us exit the vehicle once and stroll around the Mara by foot, where we saw plenty of wilderbeasts and other herbivores. Particularly our kids loved this opportunity. Leperes also had a good intuition for moments to have little photo-shoots. He took many family photos of us near the Mara river, during the sunset, next to beautiful trees and in the never ending plains of the Mara. Besides that were the lodges, in which we stayed of high quality, they always had vegetarian options for my daughter (Elephant Pepper Camp).
All in all were we more than happy to have gone on this safari with Leperes. One of the best experiences we ever had.

“I had the incredible pleasure to be guided on safari with Leperes Pilot who I call the Wildlife Whisperer. His ability to communicate with the animals provided the most amazing safari experience ever with photo opportunities galore. Having done a few other safaris I can say without question this was the very best. Wild Mara Safaris provides the best in accommodations and unique experiences and I can’t wait to return again. I recommend Wild Mara Safaris to anyone wanting a fantastic safari experience. The best ever!”
